Ottawa (October 20, 2015): The World Sikh Organization of Canada offers congratulations to Justin Trudeau and the Liberal Party of Canada on their impressive victory last night in Canada's 42nd general election.
WSO President, Dr. Amritpal Singh Shergill said today, "We offer our congratulations to Prime Minister-designate Justin Trudeau and the Liberal Party of Canada on their victory and on securing a majority government. We look forward to seeing Mr. Trudeau work towards his goals of uniting Canadians and ensuring that Canada remains an open, inclusive and welcoming place for all people.
There are many issues of immediate concern to Sikhs and Canadians of all backgrounds and we will be reaching out to our newly elected government and all MPs to ensure that those issues are addressed quickly.
As in previous Canadian elections, Sikh Canadians were again heavily involved with the campaigns of all three major parties and a record number of Sikh MPs have been elected to parliament. This result reflects the Sikh community's engagement as an integral part of this country's political fabric but even more so its love and pride in Canada."
The World Sikh Organization of Canada (WSO) is a non-profit organization with a mandate to promote and protect the interests of Canadian Sikhs as well as to promote and advocate for the protection of human rights for all individuals, irrespective of race, religion, gender, ethnicity, and social and economic status
