Sikhs in Canada have been the target of Indian disinformation campaigns for decades. In recent years however, these attacks have become more coordinated and aim to influence Canadian politicians, media and society.
In the wake of widespread farmer protests in India, Indian disinformation campaigns have renewed with increased intensity. The goal remains the same as the 80s- to malign and marginalize Canadian Sikhs with allegations of extremism and to ensure that the Sikh community is regarded with suspicion and distrust.
