35 Years Later

This past week, at our annual Brampton Community Dinner and Ottawa Parliamentary Reception, we remembered the 35th anniversary of the Indian army invasion of the Darbar Sahib Complex, a direct attack on our identity and sovereignty (we will be hosting our Surrey Community Dinner later this week).

This month also marks the 35th year anniversary of the founding of the WSO. At this year's dinners, we celebrated our community's resilience and the WSO's unapologetic advocacy for Sikh Canadians - whether that is through our #AskCanadianSikhs campaigns, legal victories, or community initiatives like the Sikh Mentorship Program, Sikh Family Helpline, Sikh Youth Leadership Institute and more.

June 2019 also marks my 1st year anniversary as Executive Director of the WSO.

I am extremely proud of not only my first year as ED, which saw the launch of new initiatives, more events, and grassroots advocacy victories, but the preceding 7+ years I have spent with the organization as a volunteer, a pro-bono legal advisor, an employee, and a board member.

Our goal is simple - to ensure we continue to protect and promote Sikh interests in Canada and have our advocacy act as a source of inspiration for Sikhs around the world.

If you believe the work we do is important and valuable, please consider donating. It is through the support of individuals like you that we are able to advocate fearlessly for Canadians coast to coast!

Jaskaran Singh Sandhu
Executive Director
