In 2018, WSO proactively recognized the unique needs and challenges faced by international students. In response, WSO developed and delivered orientation sessions for international students in cities across Canada, including Montreal, Ottawa, Brampton, Windsor, Winnipeg and Surrey.
With Canada welcoming over 500,000 international students who study at educational institutions across the country, the WSO was sought out by colleges and international student bodies to assist in addressing the growing issues in local communities.
Orientation sessions continue to be delivered and focus on rights and responsibilities in schools and workplaces, academic supports, navigating health systems. Students are also provided information and advice on immigration issues and general advice on adjusting to life in Canada. WSO also offers individualized support through the Sikh Family Helpline, which is a resource that is now recognized and promoted by colleges on several campuses in Ontario.
