2018, A Year to Remember

What a year 2018 was.

With a new energized board, we worked hard to make a positive difference. The challenges 2018 presented provided us an opportunity to come together and fight back against the barrage of attacks on the Sikh community's image. Our organization showed how critical an effective advocacy group is for the community.

Grassroots community empowerment remains integral to influencing long-term change and WSO has been there fighting on behalf of the community. From fighting the persecution of Sikh articles of faith in Quebec, lobbying for Afghan Sikhs to be given refugee status, to responding to damaging allegations of Sikh Extremism - we have been there ready to engage and respond.

To help us continue to respond we increased our investments as well, the organization hired Jaskaran Sandhu as its Executive Director to lead and coordinate our initiatives and projects, the #AskCanadianSikhs social media campaign turned into a movement and we engaged more community members, public representatives and journalists than we have ever done before. This work is paying immediate dividends and the most exciting part is that we are just getting started.

As a non-profit, we can only continue this work with your donations.

We thank all those that have supported us this past year, and beyond, and we look forward to your continued commitment.

WSO has a proud track record of service not just to Sikhs but to the cause of human rights for all Canadians - let's continue this.

We appreciate your support and look forward to doing more seva in 2019.
