2000: Beard Accommodation in Canadian Boxing

In 2000, Pardeep Singh Nagra was the Ontario flyweight amateur boxing champion but was told he wouldn't be allowed to fight because he had a beard.

The Canadian Amateur Boxing Association (CABA) said they were handcuffed by the international rule, but under threat of legal action by Nagra and the WSO, the International Amateur Boxing Association said CABA could allow Nagra to box domestically with a court order and without risking the status of other boxers in the tournament, ruling that he could compete in the province as long as his beard was gathered in a net.
