1988: House of Commons Debate on Sikh Issues

In 1988, WSO discovered a secret letter written by Canada’s External Affairs Minister Joe Clark. The letter, written to seven Premiers, told them to boycott WSO among other Sikh Organizations.

WSO worked hard to gather evidence to ensure that Canadians had the correct information. This became a topic of national discussion with unprecedented support for Sikhs from the national media.

It was debated in the House of Commons for over six hours, with Joe Clark compelled to admit that WSO was a legitimate, peaceful and reputable organization that advocated on behalf of Canadian Sikhs.
