1986: Delegation to the United Nations

In 1986, a WSO delegation traveled to Geneva to attend the United Nations conference focusing on human rights. The delegation was sponsored by a sympathetic nation since WSO was not representing any specific nation but rather a community whose members were spread around the globe.

The morning of WSO’s scheduled presentation, Interpol stopped the delegation and put them under ‘house arrest,” accusing WSO of plotting to assassinate the Indian head of mission.

The Interpol agents searched the delegates’ rooms and, after finding nothing, released the delegation. However, this delay caused the delegation to miss their presentation time. Indian officials admitted to causing this interference to prevent the presentation from taking place.
