As a result of the violence and human rights violations in 1984, many children were orphaned in India. In response to this, WSO, along with the Sikh community, adopted 86 children from the region.
WSO coordinated the financial sponsorship of the 86 children. Calgary Sikh Society took the lead on this project as 51 children came to Calgary and 13 to Edmonton.
The remaining 22 children were sponsored across Canada where they would be free of religious persecution and given a bright future.
