WSO Remembers the Victims of the Air India Tragedy

Ottawa (June 23, 2011): The World Sikh Organization of Canada remembers the victims of the1985 Air India tragedy which took the livesof 331 innocent victims.

The bombing of Air India flight 182 was an incomprehensible tragedy.  So many innocent lives were lost, including accomplished humanitarians, scientists, artists, and community activists.  Sikhs across Canada mark the event every year with prayers in Gurdwaras.<--break->

“We honour the memory of those innocents who were lost.  The bombing of Air India should never have happened and the greatest way to honour the memory of the victims is to ensure that such an act can never happen again” said WSO President Prem Singh Vinning.

WSO supports the key recommendations of Justice John Major’s Air India Report (WSO was an intervener at the Air India Inquiry) and calls on the Canadian Government to ensure that the recommended measures are quickly implemented.

The World Sikh Organization (WSO) is a non-profit international organization with a mandate to promote and protect the interests of the Sikh Diaspora, as well as to promote and advocate for the protection of human rights for all individuals, irrespective of race, religion, gender, ethnicity, and social and economic status.
