WSO Announces New Executive Director

Surrey (November 15, 2012):  The World Sikh Organization of Canada is pleased to announce the appointment of Sukhvinder Kaur Vinning as Executive Director.  Sukhvinder Kaur is the former Vice President of the Multifaith Action Society (MAS), an interfaith organization committed to interfaith dialogue and multifaith collaboration on socially responsible and relevant initiatives for the common good of all.  After earning a Bachelor of Sciences degree from UBC, Sukhvinder Kaur has worked for the past 14 years with the RCMP as a police dispatcher for many communities in the Lower Mainland of BC.    Her intimate connections and knowledge of various communities brings an important perspective to her work.  Sukhvinder Kaur is also a member of Surrey Neighbouring Faiths Program, the Surrey Interfaith Contemplative Group and a friend of the InterSpiritual Centre of Vancouver.

Sukhvinder Kaur is an energetic and resourceful community builder who has made great strides in fostering trust and understanding between diverse cultures and faith communities in BC.  She brings strong organizational and administrative skills and a passion for community collaboration rooted in compassion and justice to the position.  As a representative of the MAS, Sukhvinder Kaur collaborated with WSO and the Vancouver 2010 Integrated Security Unit to develop the precedent setting kirpan accommodation for the 2010 winter Olympics.  The policy has served as a model for other events and venues such as the 2012 summer Olympics in the UK.

Sukhvinder Kaur will be commencing her duties with WSO immediately

WSO President Prem Singh Vinning said “we are very excited to have Sukhvinder Kaur onboard.  Sukhvinder Kaur will be spearheading several new initiatives in the days to come. She has a proven track record of bringing people and communities together and we know she will be putting that experience to work for us here at the WSO.”

WSO BC Vice President Gurdit Singh Rangi said, “we’re fortunate that Sukhvinder Kaur will be working for us on the ground here in BC.  She knows the BC Sikh community very well but also has excellent communication and relationships with other communities.  Sukhvinder Kaur’s coming onboard is a great addition to the WSO team and we’re confident this move will take the organization to even greater heights.”
