The requirement to wear helmets while riding a motorcycle puts undue restrictions on Sikhs who wear a turban as an article of their faith. The Ontario courts’ recent judgment in the case of Baljinder Singh Badesha, in refusing to make an exception for Sikhs that wear turbans, runs counter to the religious freedoms enshrined in the Canadian Charter of Rights.
